The Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

October 7, 2007

National Collection for Evangelization of the Nations. At the instigation of Pope Pius XI in October of each year is World Mission Day. It is a time for Catholics throughout the world to pray for missions and to make a gesture of sharing. The sums collected are used to sustain the 1075 dioceses that come under the jurisdiction of the Congregation of the Evangelization of the Nations in Rome. This collection will take place the weekend of Oct. 20-21, 2007.

Enrolment For the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation will be held at all masses the weekend of Oct. 13 & 14, 2007.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) The weekly sessions for RCIA have begun for this season. The Christian Initiation of Adults is a very meaningful experience for all those involved. If you would like to become a member of the Catholic Church or return to the Church after having been away for a while, or are non-catholic parents who have children attending a Catholic school – come and meet with us at the RCIA. Newcomers are welcome! Drop in! We meet Tuesday evenings in the Holy Family room in the church at 7:30 pm. For more information, please call the parish office at 824-4394 or Pat LaViolette. We ask the parish community to unite in prayer with the members of the RCIA group as this faith journey continues.

Volunteers and all parish workers at Good Shepherd are reminded to respect the confidence of others in keeping with our Responsible Ministry initiative and policy. Your cooperation in this regard is appreciated.

Making a Will – A Lasting Legacy: Please consider a gift to your Parish in your will as a lasting and beneficial testimony of faith.

New to the Parish? Welcome! Please fill in a registration form, or call the office, and take a box of envelopes or consider using a cheque, Visa/MC or pre-authorized contribution plan for Sunday contribution. Our financial requirements are approx. $7,000 per week to support our approx. $2,000 a week mortgage payment, any excess is used to pay the finishing construction costs or to pay down the mortgage. Thank you for your generous weekly support of Good Shepherd Parish.

We have found a solution to our ‘invisible lettering' and have advised the contractor to proceed, changing the lettering to black.  If the weather cooperates, the signs should be completed before winter.

CWL General Meeting on Tues. Oct. 9 at 7:30. All welcome

Have you circled October 20th on your calendars?  Our Harvest Potluck Fundraiser is fast approaching.  This year we will also be having a raffle for 3 exciting prizes.  Tickets will be on sale the two weekends  prior to the event - when you all sign up!!  Entertainment, fun, good food (your best dish after all!) and an exciting silent auction. All this while enjoying the company of fellow parishioners.  So bring your mad money and enjoy while helping support our parish!

Bible Study at Good Shepherd Parish You are invited to join a journey of faith and discovery as we continue an on-going series of Bible study courses. The Gospel According to Matthew is a ten-week course that begins on November 12 and explores the text that provides the majority of gospel readings for the church’s new liturgical year. All classes are held at Good Shepherd Parish on Monday nights from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Using materials produced for the widely acclaimed Little Rock Scripture Study series, we will "break-open" sacred texts and learn how profoundly they touch our individual and community lives. To facilitate group sharing, the number of participants will be limited to twelve. Pre-registration is necessary, and the courses are usually fully booked. The participant fee is $25.00, and includes the cost of a personal copy of the scripture commentary and a study guide. For more information regarding the courses, contact Ron McRae at 613-841-4698 or ronald.mcrae@sympatico.ca

HAPPY FALL TO YOU
From one pumpkin to another!!!!!!!

A woman was asked by a coworker, 'What is it like to be a Christian? 'The coworker replied, 'It is like being a pumpkin. 'God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed.  Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.'

Happy Thanksgiving
