The Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 14, 2007
A Pastoral Theme for 2007-2008 Activity Year has been proposed by Archbishop Terrance Prendergast. It is: TOGETHER WITH MARY WE LIVE THE EUCHARIST It emphasizes the 150th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions to St. Bernadette at Lourdes, France in 1858 and the 49th International Eucharistic Congress June 15-22, 2008 in Quebec with the theme The Eucharist – Gift of God for the Life of the World
National Collection for Evangelization of the Nations. We give thanks to God for the abundant fruits of missionary cooperation in Africa and in other regions of the world. We express our gratitude to priests, women and men religious and lay missionaries who leave their home communities to serve in other communities. We acknowledge martyrs, past and present for giving their all in the proclamation of the Gospel. May World Mission Sunday be an occasion to remember in our prayers these individuals and all those who work in the vast field of mission. In this regard it is very important that individual Catholics realize that they too are agents of mission. Shared responsibility and reciprocal assistance are critical to this missionary activity of the Church. This collection will take place the weekend of Oct. 20-21, 2007. Enrolment For the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation for school aged children will be held at all masses this weekend. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) The RC IA weekly gathering is now happening. This first phase of the RCIA process is called the Pre-catechumenate. During this time, individuals seeking to become members of the Catholic Church are called inquirers. This is a time set aside to provide the inquirers an opportunity to ask questions about the Catholic faith and traditions. Also, it is a time unhurried reflection and discovery. Each inquirer as a unique individual journeys at his or her own pace. For more information, please call the parish office or Pat LaViolette. The Environment Committee would like to Thank Budd Gardens for the pumpkins that they donated for the Thanksgiving display. The fresh produce was taken to the Shepherds of Good Hope after the weekend masses. Official Prayer of the Eucharistic Congress God our Father, We bless you and give you thanks for your Son Jesus, the gift of your love for the life of the world. Watch over your Church as it celebrates in joy and hope the 49th International Eucharistic Congress. Renew our faith in the Holy Eucharist, the memorial of your Son’s death and resurrection. May your Holy Spirit shed his light upon us and grant us strength to serve as faithful witnesses to the Gospel. Nourish us with your Word and your Bread of Life so that united with Mary, the Mother of your Divine Son and Mother of the Church, we will bear much fruit for the salvation of the world. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Baptisms: We welcome into our community of faith: Zachary Maurice Yelle & Nathan Sylvain Yelle, children of Sylvain & Wendy Yelle; Lola Belle Hustins, daughter of Dean & Renee Hustins; Corbin Douglas Freeman, son of Craig & Nancy Freeman; Mareika Scheidegger, daughter of Marcus & Michelle Scheidegger; Brandon Sean Dunn, son of Sean & Jodie Dunn; Sheren Joseph Hettiarachchi, son of Sanjeewa & Nilushi Hettiarachchi.
