Admission of Candidates to the Permanent Diaconate:  On Sunday January 20, Archbishop Terrence Prendergast will celebrate the 9:00 am Eucharist at Good Shepherd Parish and admit to candidacy several men who are studying for the Permanent Diaconate.  Kevin Foley and Ron MacRae of Good Shepherd Parish are among the candidates.  Please join us for this celebration followed by a reception in the social space.  The Archbishop looks forward to meeting many parishioners.
Welcome to Fr. Vernon Boyd, S.J., who will be assisting in the parish over the next few months.  As mentioned, I will be involved in Diocesan meetings, etc. (as of Jan. 1, 2008) in the role as Episcopal Vicar for the English sector of the Archdiocese of Ottawa.  Your patience is appreciated during this time of transition.  Please keep all in your prayers. Ribbon of Signatures Campaign is to address those who willfully, or through negligence of their duties, allow the internet to be used to publish astronomical amounts of child pornography. The ribbon states: "Internet Service Providers (ISPs) help protect our children from on-line predators". The signed ribbon will be sent to the Chairman of the CRTC.
Please take a moment to sign the white ribbon in the gathering space the weekend of Jan. 12-13 for the Ribbon of Signatures Campaign to address child pornography on the internet.
HOMELANDS MASS: The Homelands Mass will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2:30 p.m. at Notre Dame Cathedral. All cultural communities have been invited to attend as well as those from various cultural backgrounds who have integrated our English and French parishes. What a great occasion for all of us to gather and adore Him who has come to gather all nations into one people!

World Day of Migrants and Refugees (January 13): A World Day of Migrants and Refugees has been promoted by many Episcopal Conferences in the world in communion with the one promoted by the UNO on June 20.  “If the dream of a peaceful world is shared by all, if the refugees’ and migrants’ contribution is properly evaluated, then humanity can become more and more of a universal family and our earth a true common home.” – Pope John Paul II, 2004 message.
CANTOR WORKSHOP:  At Good Shepherd Parish, Sat., Jan. 19, 9:00 a.m. - noon.  All parish cantors and those who would like to enhance their participation in liturgical music are encouraged to attend.  Info & registration: Charlotte Gupta (613-841-2894); (cgupta@rogers.com).  The Diocesan Liturgy Commission encourages all those involved in parish music ministry to participate.

Our financial requirements are approx. $7,000 per week to support our approx. $2,000 a week mortgage payment.  Thank you for your generous weekly support of Good Shepherd Parish.  2008 Envelopes are available in the gathering space. It’s a time for new beginnings.  The Good Shepherd Widows and Widowers Friendship Group offers friendship and informal support within a Christian setting.  The Group is holding its regular monthly meeting this Thursday, January 17, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in the social space.  New members are always welcome.  For more information about the group, please contact Pauline Canning or John Reny.
St. Augustine Parish Men’s Breakfast Come and enjoy a nutritious continental breakfast and hear Jim Meuse give an inspiring and informative talk on “A Worker in the Vineyard”; Saturday January 19th from 8:00 – 10:00 am.  Jim is a layman who dedicates his life to his family and the Church. In addition to being Chairman of the Board of both Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) and Maryvale Academy , Jim is member of the Board of Directors of Mary Mother of the Poor as well as the Ottawa Archdiocesan Council. Jim also plays an important role with the Knights of Columbus and has a keen interest in various Youth Ministries. Tickets: $4.00 at the door.
