ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE. You will find specially marked envelopes in your bulletin this weekend for Easter flowers. If you are remembering a loved one or an event please include it on the envelope.
Thank You for your support.  Patricia Clément, chair
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) The Second Scrutiny will be celebrated next weekend during the 9:00 am Mass on Sunday.  In the Gospel for this fourth Sunday of Lent, Jesus heals a man who was blind from birth.  Last week, during the First Scrutiny we prayed for conversion from personal sin in our lives.  Today, we see the reality of social sin through the story of the man born blind.  In our response to this gospel story, we ask ourselves in what ways we participate in the social sin of our day, such as policies affecting wages, health care, insurance, housing, food and shelter for the homeless, racism, seniors, discrimination, consumerism.  With the elect, we reflect on ways in which we are blinded to the truth and we pray that Jesus will heal our blindness.

New to the Parish?  Welcome!  Please fill in a registration form, or call the office, and take a box of envelopes or consider using a cheque, Visa/MC or pre-authorized contribution plan for Sunday contribution. Our financial requirements are approx. $7,000 per week to support our approx. $2,000 a week mortgage payment.  Thank you for your generous weekly support of Good Shepherd Parish.  2008 Envelopes are available in the gathering space. Making a Will – A Lasting Legacy:  Please consider a gift to your Parish in your will as a lasting and beneficial testimony of faith.
Tax receipts for the 2007 year are available this weekend in the gathering space.  Please pick yours up to avoid the parish having to mail them out.  This saves us the expensive postage.

Excerpt from Letter from Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, S.J. to the Faithful for Lent 2008
Prayer
The prayer above all others is the Eucharist. All should strive to renew their commitment to Sunday Mass as the centre of their life of faith. Daily Mass or meditation on the daily Scripture readings can extend the Lord’s Day throughout the week.
Morning and evening prayer, grace before meals and other devotions such as meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, reciting the Chaplet of Divine Mercy or making the Stations of the Cross—all of these are expressions of a faith that is alive and grateful to God for blessings received.
Finally, Eucharistic Adoration where available—and many of our parishes hold one or more hours of exposition each week—allows for the deepening of our love for the Eucharistic Lord Jesus and for coming to understand his will for our lives.
"Are you single by choice? Are you satisfied with your career/profession but want more? Explore your vocation to be Single for the Lord. Members will be sharing spiritual, educational and social activities on a regular weekly/biweekly basis. Interested: St. Patrick's Basilica of Ottawa c/o Petronella @ 613.744.7585."
Now here is a rare and wonderful kind of ministry opportunity in the Catholic Faith for singles in the national capital to simply communicate the Good News of Jesus through their words and by their deeds by choosing to remain "Single for the Lord."
It is a ministry to prepare singles to apply the Catholic teaching which is focused on:
- living a Christ-centred celibate life,
- our responsibility to one another,
- reaching out to the poor and vulnerable (Mt 25:31-46),
- the dignity of work and the rights & responsibilities of the worker,
- solidarity with our neighbour; and
- being stewards of God’s creation.
It combines the features of long-term process to allow change and growth to occur through access to education/teaching, spiritual and social activities with strong emphasis on community building.
Single blessedness - The unmarried state of being blessed; happiness; felicity; bliss; heavenly joys; fully dedicated to God.
As you are faced with the thought-provoking, life-altering decisions of life, keep your hand in God's hands and He will guide you into all truth (John 16:3).
