Volunteers are requested to place their name and phone number on the sign-up sheet that is available in the gathering space.
Parish musicians, please mark your calendars.  The choir practice for Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil is scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2008 from 2 to 4pm.  If you would like to participate in the music ministry for these liturgies, please plan to attend this practice.

Begins 9:30 a.m., Friday, March 21 at St Patrick's Basilica. Arrival at Notre-Dame Cathedral at 11:30 a.m. Sponsored by Communion and Liberation.

Knights of Columbus – Recruiting Weekend – Good Shepherd Council of the Knights of Columbus will be conducting our second membership recruiting drive of this year at all masses the weekend of March 1 & 2.  Members of the Council will be available after all masses to answer questions and accept applications for membership.  Please think about it.
The Share Lent collection for DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE, will be taken up next weekend. Please use the envelope tucked inside this Bulletin or the Share Lent envelope in your normal supply.  As an alternative to giving a single lump sum, you may want to consider the  Share Year-Round  program in which one can pledge a monthly amount over a 12 month period.   Details are available after Mass today or on the agency’s website at www.devp.org
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) News From RCIA.  The Third Scrutiny is celebrated this weekend during the 9:00 am Mass on Sunday.  The Gospel of the fifth Sunday of Lent announces the ultimate promise of Jesus Christ as Saviour.  Jesus raises his friend Lazarus from the tomb.  The message is clear.  Whatever entombs any of us, wherever we are spiritually dead, that’s exactly where Jesus calls us forth to new freedom through our dying and rising with him on the day of our Baptism.  The presence among us of the elect, and of the candidates for full communion with the Church are strong reminders to us of this transformation.
Our Lady of Charity Hour of Prayer
The Icon of our Lady of Charity which is touring the North America & sponsored by the Knights of Columbus will arrive in our parish on March 4th and will be present at our Vespers Service on Mar. 5th.

Excerpt from Letter from Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, S.J. to the Faithful for Lent 2008
Fasting
Fast and abstinence still comprise an important aspect of a Catholic’s devotional life. Catholics are called to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent and to fast (eat only one full meal) on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
These are expressions of a desire to enter into the Lenten renewal at the start of Lent (Ash Wednesday) and gratitude for the Lord Jesus’ gift of his life for us (Fridays, especially Good Friday).
Other traditional acts of “giving up” sweets, alcohol, tobacco or other pleasures during Lent help individuals personalize their spirit of Lenten sacrifice—a desire to “turn from sin and believe the Good News”.
