The baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River renews the call that we received in our own baptism.
 
Pope Benedict’s Monthly Prayer Intentions for January 2009
General Intention: That the family may become more and more a place of training in charity, personal growth and transmission of the faith.
Missionary Intention: That the different Christian confessions, aware of the need for a new evangelization in this period of profound transformations, may be committed to announcing the Good News and moving towards the full unity of all Christians in order to offer a more credible witness of the Gospel.
An Introduction to Lectio Divina, Saturday, 24 January from 9:00 am to noon (Parish Social Space). - Discover and share this ancient tradition for reading Sacred Scripture. Participants will be introduced to techniques for praying and contemplating the Word of God in a way that offers a guide to Christian living. Bring along your copy of the complete Bible. CWL General Meeting in Social Space. Tues. Jan. 13 - 7:30 - Everyone welcome.
 
The parish would like to explore the creation of a Good Shepherd Community of Retirees. It could meet once a month during the morning to build community in some way to be determined by the members. If you would like to explore this further please contact the parish office with your name and contact information or send an e-mail to john.flynn@rogers.com. John will follow up in the New Year with all who are interested.
 
MUSIC MINISTRY - The Good Shepherd Parish music ministry needs an accompanist for the cantor, once a month on the second Saturday of the month at the 5pm Mass.  If you are able and willing to share your talents, please contact Charlotte Gupta

 “A VOTE AGAINST VALUES: HOW VALUES-LANGUAGE CORRUPTS OUR THINKING”: Dr. Graeme Hunter, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Ottawa, will give a talk at Saint Patrick’s Basilica (220 Kent St.) on Friday, January 30 at 7:30 pm.  It will be held in the basement (use ramp entrances).  No cost.  All are welcome.  Questions from the audience afterward.

DON BOSCO GALA – A CELEBRATION OF YOUTH MINISTRY:  Wonderful things are happening across Ottawa in our Parishes and with our Youth Ministry Movements...so we are going to CELEBRATE with a semi-formal dinner /dance with a talk on the Heart of Youth Ministry by Melissa Delaney. Includes the Don Bosco Youth Ministry Awards for outstanding leadership in Youth Ministry. Limited number of tickets available. Cost $30. ST MATTHEW SCHOOL - On Friday, February 6, 2009 at 7pm, St. Matthew’s School Council is holding Trivia Night.  Form groups of six players to participate in a fun-filled evening of trivia, prizes and refreshments.  The cost is $10 per person.  This is a great opportunity for the adult members of our community to get together and socialize.  Further information regarding this event, as well as the purchase of tickets, can be obtained by contacting the office at St. Matthew at 613-837-3161 or check the school website
